There’s no longer an option to close their begging popup. I do wish adblock would block that one as well, I’m a little confused as to why it doesn’t.
Nice try, maybe I’ll consider whitelisting when that says 7 instead of 17.

Just saw the new version (which frankly looks a bit broken).
Last time I tried a Kinja site without an ad blocker, I was immediately greeted by an auto-play video ad with audio. If they want to not serve content to people with ad-blockers, that’s their choice, but there’s no way I’m going to unblock them if they are running that sort of invasive advertising.

If you hit I’ve Whitelisted it will close and you can leave Adblock on.

But then you would be lying.

Just went to the front page with my ad blocker... it said 32... On oppo it says 17.

You really think someone would do that?
Go on the internet and tell lies?

That’s good to know...I’d never tried that

Jesus. Oppo says 7 for me

Kinda makes me hope Univision goes bankrupt.
I also refuse to subscribe to any content where the producers can monetize my interest. Sorry devarnish. Not sorry.

I’m running stock chrome, just went to the site and I see 2 small porsche ads that are not intrusive at all. Maybe 17 is blocking tracking and stuff too, not actual ads?

They’ve kind of shot themselves in the foot. Because even if they go easier on the ads, most people aren’t going to white list them after using ad blocker for so long.

Weird. I haven’t tried going there without Adblock on in ages, but when I did, there were banner ads that would load late and jump the page while you’re reading or trying to click something, expanding ads, autoplay videos, the works. On desktop, on mobile it wasn’t quite as bad.

But why?

maybe it hits what it sees as infrequent visitors hard or something? I visit a few times daily both from home and work and never have anything like that (well maybe once in a blue moon), so I never got the big deal on ad blocking (on jalopnik at least)
